CHRIS LINK

ABOUT CHRIS

I learned early that performance is shaped by more than individual effort.

My career has taken me from classroom teaching to district implementation, school leadership, global nonprofit leadership, and cross-sector consulting. Each role expanded the part of the system I could influence and deepened my understanding of what turns an important priority into sustained practice.

EXPANDING THE VIEW

The question grew with the work.

I began as a science teacher focused on helping students learn. I soon recognized that performance depended on more than individual knowledge or effort. Curriculum, expectations, leadership, schedules, resources, and professional learning all shaped what teachers and students could accomplish.

That realization led me toward roles where I could influence more of the system. At the district level, I helped translate systemwide change into a multiyear implementation strategy. As a school leader, I led curriculum, instruction, professional learning, and the development of teachers and instructional leaders.

As a director at a global nonprofit, the scope expanded again. I led multidisciplinary teams and a multimillion-dollar education portfolio supporting programs in more than 100 countries. The work required alignment among mission, funding, partnerships, program design, evaluation, and execution.

Since 2022, I have applied that perspective across education, technology, and mission-driven organizations. Whether the stated need involves learning, technology, content, or implementation, I examine the broader system to identify what is preventing an important priority from becoming sustained practice.

LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVE

How experience shapes my leadership

1) See the whole system

I connect organizational priorities with the roles, workflows, tools, information, and operating conditions that influence performance.

2) Translate across boundaries

I help executives, technical teams, learning professionals, subject-matter experts, and partners develop shared understanding and make coordinated decisions.

3) Build for sustained practice

I translate strategy into practical systems, standards, resources, responsibilities, and ways of working that people can use.

BACKGROUND

I am a first-generation colege graduate with a PhD in Education. My doctoral work emphasized teaching and learning, curriculum and instructional design, qualitative and quantitative research, and program evaluation. That training strengthened my ability to step back and understand an organizational system while also examining how its individual components shape performance.

I am based in Maplewood, New Jersey, in the Greater New York City area.
